Windows 7 RC vs. Vista, First Benchmarks

While I myself have yet to try out the new RC for windows 7, I can look at the new benchmarks posted on Gizmodo, and wonder what’s up?!

Keep in mind, this is testing the 32-bit versions of Windows 7 and Vista on the same machine with the following specs;

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM (but really 3GB available cause of the 32-bit issue)
256MB Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT

Check out the rest after a quick bump.

Now, why am I posting this when I could just point to it and say, “Look! Cool benchmarks!” ? Well it seems the numbers show some interesting results.

While the ‘normal activity’ tests show Vista having a faster shutdown as well as being faster in applying a filter to a 16.6MB (9764×3720 pixel) photo in Adobe Photoshop CS4, from personal experience with the beta, I can’t really agree with these results, which may explain the next benchmarks!

So, by the numbers, it would seem that Win 7 is good for gaming, but not much for practical use. But again, from my experiences with the beta version of Windows 7, I saw a big increase in everything, even general use. The overall feel on the system was more smooth than Vista and multi-tasking with multiple programs (in my case, Photoshop and Dreamweaver) was easier and more flexible with RAM.

So, basically, while the numbers may show one thing, the actual experience may differ for each machine. But overall Windows 7 is looking to be a lot more…productive…than its predecessor, Vista.

  1. in mmy opinion: the pretty girl will(7 or vista) never have more performance than XP.

    ok, xp is old, but still is a great OS, is ugly, but is very good.

    that is my conlusion after i made a lot of personal benchmarks, testing games, etc on three OS.

    sorry for my english, isnt my lenguage.

    YOU SHOULD DO YOUR OWN BENCHMARKS TO SEE WHAT I SAY.

  2. Well, Remember, Win7RC it´s not the final one. XP have old technology where drivers and other software works fine, but 7 and Vista (with new installation) works better. Try to upgrade your habitual software and let the future begins. SEVEN it´s better than Vista. Vista it´s great. XP (fast but sometimes unstable). I´m waiting for the final 7. Works great in my Core 2 Duo 2.0, Mem 2 Gb. and nVidia 8500 GT.
