25 years ago, in a computer lab in the Soviet Union’s Academy of Science, a 29-year old Pajitnov was hard at work at what would become one of the greatest and most widespread puzzle game ever to be created. I of course speak of Tetris.
First created using a Elektronika 60 (a type of Soviet computer terminal), Tetris was only 10 levels long due to the size of the memory in the computer, but the addictive game was released anyway on June 6th 1984. The name was a combination of the greek word, tetra (having ‘four’) and Pajitnov’s favorite sport, Tennis.
Today, Tetris can be seen on almost every platforn known to date. Everything from the original Nintendo Gameboy, to the early PCs, to even the current-gen consoles, and even to the iPhone. Even today, with the masses clamoring for more realistic graphics and games that could last longer than 40 hours, Tetris is just one of those games that doesn’t really need a story or those fancy graphics, as long as the simplistic and highly addictive game-play is there, coupled with the catchy and awesome tunes, It would be hard to forget, let alone put down, such a fantastic masterpiece of gaming.
Also, I think we can all agree that the NES version of Tetris, the one coupled with Dr. Mario, is the best Tetris ever released.
Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for sites about computer games and your post looks very interesting for me.
