Because, you know, everyone else hasn’t already. Regardless, I only got a PS3 during December of last year and along with it I made a PSN account (as well as my brother) but the only online playing either of us has done has been with Demon’s Souls (and I stopped connecting to PSN (before they disconnected everyone) because I like having my body NOT get ravaged by a bunch of black phantoms looking to get their body back) Anyway, my point is, I have yet to use my credit card with the account and the whole ‘PSN being hacked’ story doesn’t affect me…too much.
Or does it? It actually does, more than I thought it would. Why? Because it’s personal information that I gave to Sony and trusted them to not be lame about it. Though they didn’t themselves give out the information of 77 million people, there is a feeling that this all could have been avoided if they weren’t dicks about security. Good news, though, if you’ve used your credit card through PSN, according to a blog post from Sony, “As of today, the major credit card companies have not reported any fraudulent transactions that they believe are the direct result of this cyber attack.”
Sony also says it will be offering a “Welcome Back” program which includes a bunch of free stuff but that doesn’t change a thing, for me anyway. The fact remains, that Sony was breached, either through negligence, poor decisions, or just bad luck (probably all of the above, in my “glass-half-empty opinion”) and it’ll be a long while before I purchase anything through PSN…if it ever comes back online when it comes back online.
Am I angry over this whole mess Sony is in? Not so much angry, but disappointed. It’s been discussed to death at this point, but, if you can’t trust a giant like Sony, then is really anything safe? Probably not. I’ll have to move out to a remote cabin somewhere in the Canadian wilderness and hide for a few years at this point. At least until Skynet comes online and destroys humanity.
Stay lazy, PSN users.
