Free-2-Play Goes F2P Which Is Now Free To Play

Free-2-play-ception?

Yesterday, it was announced that Age of Conan, the fantasy MMO that takes place in the world where Crom can go to hell because he can’t grant simple revenge, is now free-to-play. As always with testing the waters of the F2P market, some items and features are available to “Premium” members only, but the meat of the game is all there, ready to be enjoyed.

Oh, and I guess World of Warcraft took a dip as well. Only it’s an unlimited trial, of sorts. Rather, a trial with no time restriction. So, you can have any number of characters, but with the normal trial restrictions in place, such as the level cap of 20 and the inability to send in-game tells. A little more limiting than I would like to see in a F2P-title, but this is the MMO-cocaine that’s made Blizzard nice and comfy atop their pile of money.

Now, while I’m not old enough to have grown up with the original D&D, my dad was into it, and luckily for me, he still had the old AD&D manuals (which I now possess), and we had a nights of fun with it every so often, and it’s how I first heard of it. But that quickly faded, sad to say, and I moved on to PC gaming, but I got to participate in the original DDO beta back in 2005, which was a blast, but, as I am a lazy (and poor) geek, I didn’t continue playing the game after it was released. Well, looks like the city of Stormreach has opened is doors to me once again and I cannot wait until the new DDO is released this summer!
