PAX 2010 – Day 2: A Dynamic Meeting [Updated]

So, remember when I said we would go look at the other exhibits at PAX? Ha ha ha, I was lying apparently. I was lying so hard, I have to make two seperate posts about the awesomeness that went on yesterday, so buckle up, and let me tell you a story about an epic mega shark, and Quaggan bombs.

And maybe Iron Quaggan.

So, the day started off like yesterday, but an hour earlier, so the expo floor was mostly empty save for a few medical and media badges walking/rolling/gimping around, so what did we three head straight for? Guild Wars 2, go figure. Blue and I played a Charr around this time while our dad finally played around with a human but we all enjoyed the demo. Again. Its so much fun. No video because I was playing, so totally not my fault.

Anyway, what happens next is fantastic. A lovely employee of ArenaNet approached us as we met back up after the demo and we got to show her how nerdy and fanatic we are about Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Eventually, she was too kind enough to give us each one pass to a super-secret panel for ‘Designing Dynamic Events‘ where Eric Flannum, Colin Johanson, and even Jeff Grubb was on hand to talk about the in-game dynamic events in Guild Wars, well only for a little bit.

The panel described what events are like in GW2 for only 20 minutes, afterwards some (a lot) of questions were asked, but they cut us off because we still needed time to design an event for Guild Wars 2. Taking ideas from around the room and then voting on those ideas eventually got us a huge chain event that requires other chains to have either failed or succeed and the event deals with the peace-loving Quaggans, mostly, with outside support from The Vigil and other places. So something happens that needs something else to happen but something else fails and eventually you end up with an epic mega shark boss swimming around a fortress in the middle of a lake and support for the Quaggan coming from players and elsewhere and…well you need to watch the video, which will be up, because I wasn’t the only one recording. Keep your eyes peeled and watch out for Quaggan bombs!

This is the part of the post I would show you pictures and video and go further into detail, but I can”t. I want to, but wi-fi doesn’t permit awesomeness being uploaded. So wait for it, I’ll get video and pictures up soon, promise. Anyway, I’ll talk about the rest of my day after a shower. And a Monte Cristo. Fine, fine, while eating a Monte Cristo.

So, when can we see this all out and about? I have just the video that will explain when Guild Wars 2 will be ready.
