Day one of PAX 2010 has come and gone with not a whole lot seen from me, sadly. This is, of course, all to blame Guild Wars two, but I still have one and a half day to enjoy the rest of this fantastic convention. So, day one, what did I get done?
The day actually started when we (My brother and me) landed in Seattle around midnight which was fun for neither of us (and the plane trip suuuuucked!), and finally got to our hotel room at 1-2AM in the morning, and we were both jet-lagged but managed to get a few hours of sleep before waking up. Already, I could’ve told you then I was not going to get much done.
So before the expo opened, we got to meet up with some ArenaNet staff and get free stuff, like a Guild Wars 2 bandanna that will be worn religiously until I need to wash it. In fact, I’m still wearing the sweat-filled cloth as I write this after having just woken up (I’m joking), but you get what I’m saying. My group (My father, brother, and I) also got a set (together) of these awesome stamped postcards as well as a pretty sweet t-shirt that none of us can fit into
.
Regardless, the doors opened to the expo hall at 10 (local time) and we immediately headed to the Guild Wars 2 area, where they had around 16 setups for demoing (one was the designated media demo so only 15, but then there were some 3D setups so more like 19-ish. REMINDER: 3D…DO THAT) and demos lasted about half a hour-ish.
“Blue” (My brother), was first up and decided to play the starting area as a human warrior (There were two choices, one was starting a new human character, the other was playing as a level…47, I think, Charr that was way far in the game.) (REMINDER: Level 47 Necromancer had a freaking whiptail devourer as a minion. DO WANT.) Anyway, it looks like he was having fun and got to join in a couple of those awesome dynamic events that other demo-ers were participating in and there was much jumping over fences.
Come my turn, I made a starting ranger who eventually got to duel-wield a main-handed sword and off-hand hatchet with a pet bear. There were some socks being rocked, let me tell you. I also got to dye my guys armor and, it’s sad to say, but it is really good and it’ll allow for a lot more customization than GW1 had. Dye mixing is soon to be a lost art anyway *tear*.
And my father didn’t get a chance, or maybe didn’t want a chance to play, but there’s tomorrow…er…today and we’re headed back. But after my demo, Blue headed back to the hotel but our dad and I stayed and hung around to answer a GW-related trivia question, and because we answered correctly, we got to go look foolish in front of everyone and fail to answer two of three trivia questions correctly. Had we, we would have tickets to the dev. panel today talking about dynamic events. Although a fun day, it was also a sad day. Sort of.
In between that, we got to meetup with Rhonda (M A L I B U Barbie) of GW-EN.com and Guild Wars fame and hung for a little bit as we tried (and failed) to get a picture of people who were dying to the sword of a charr. Yeah, didn’t I tell you, there is a charr at PAX, and none of the pictures we took came out, either because the camera is crap or an asshole or two got in the way of the shot.
And that was pretty much it. I think I might be coming down with a bug my old man gave me, which won’t stop me, but it’ll suck. I need to get better pictures and video today…and, I guess look around at what else PAX has to offer, duh. So, until tomorrow early-morning, ta-ta!
