Nostalgia, Nerdstalgia, and Whatever Else-stalgia

What is nostalgia? Well, according to oxforddictionaries.com, “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.” Okay, that sounds about right, though it was originally used to describe homesickness, but I digress.

Nostalgia these days plays an important part of people’s lives, even if they don’t admit to it. “It was better back in the day.” Or, “remember the good ol’ days?” Or even, “When I was your age…” For whatever reason, everything was better in the past and we sometimes spend a moment or two reminiscing, either alone or with friends, every once in a while about the past. But that’s about it, though. We can’t revisit old friends(until we discover time travel), but, we can watch an old movie and remember the feelings we first felt upon watching ‘Metropolis’ or ’2001: A Space Oddity’. We can remember the wonderment we felt when reading through ‘The Hobbit’ the first time, but even then, it’s always a little different, or maybe it’s not. Nostalgia is funny like that. What about nostalgia and gaming? Is that any different than watching old movies once again or reading old books we read forever ago? Well, the short answer is that it is different, and it is fantastic. Read on. Continue reading

Wait, What Happened After PAX East?

I went home and ate three gallons of ice cream while crying because someone called me fat while I was at the convention.

Well, that’s not at all what happened, but I did get home after a short flight, and this was proceeded by a lot of catching up school work and not-school work. And a lot of reading of other, not-gaming news, but now it’s time to get back to it. To what? Why, science, of course!

But maybe later, for now, we should just worry about the LHC tearing apart the fabric of space and time. In the coming weeks, however, expect some good ol’ fashioned rants and “frothings” about a number of topics, mostly centered around gaming, and until then, keep an eye out.

A Month later…

Yeah, I kind of fell of the radar (for the most part) after my post, and there’s no really good excuse for it, but it happens sometimes, right? Anyway, let’s get back on track and talk about some stuff. First, PAX East in a week, and I’ll be going. Why? Because Guild Wars 2 will be there with a new build of the game! Oh, and some friends whom I talk to in the Guild Wars community are going too, so, I guess I’m going to see them and scare them. And i’ll also see if I can get some better video footage on my not-HD-camera.

What else…Oh! Kotaku and Gawker’s new blog layout is absolute crap! That’s an unexpected change that not many were pleased about. I still have my RSS feeds thankfully, but I do miss commenting, but not really.

Oh, back to Guild Wars, aparently the super-awesome-easy-mode update is coming out today that’ll contain ‘Embark Beach’ among other surprises, and I’ll be writing about it in between my rage fits about it! Come to think of it, it’s been a long while since an update hasn’t done something silly to make me upset, but I have a feeling that this next update will take the cake. Or pie, if that’s you’re preferred sweet-treat.

Uh, what else…Podcasts! I’ll do more of those, especially at PAXEast in a week, so that’s something to look forward to, right? Though I’m warning you now, the quality might not be as “top notch” as the last two, but it’ll pass.

Oh! And Rift. I’ve been playing Rift along with other GW souls who are waiting for Guild Wars 2 to be released and it’s quite fun and very polished for a newly-launched game. Is it a WoW-killer? No, but why does it have to be? Answer, it doesn’t. Now stop being silly.

so, that’s everything in a nutshell, I’ll get back to a schedule eventually, so stay-tuned all 15 of you!
