  • Simon Cottee Presents, The Pixel

Posted on May 25th, 2010 Connor "The Lazy Geek" No comments

A new video going around by Simon Cottee, creator of Rule, in which he explains the pixel and what it means for people, or rather what it could mean, alongside interesting points brought up by SiD creator Jason Rohrer, chiptune artist Dot.AY, and Studio Joho. It’s a very interesting watch, even if you’re not into the whole pixel art or chiptune scene. Also it gave me something meaningful to post about in the last few weeks. :) Video and more after the jump.

  • Tron Gets Weaponized, 8-Bit Style

Posted on May 4th, 2010 Connor "The Lazy Geek" No comments

With Tron Legacy on the way, now is a pretty good time to look back on a classic geek icon and pleasantly sigh with nostalgia. Especially so with a tribute to the original Tron in the form of 8-bit chiptune mixes of Wendy Carlos’ original iconic music by (guess who) 8-Bit Weapon.

Tron Tribute is a free MP3 album consisting of 5 mixes of two tracks from the original Tron soundtrack, Tron Scherzo and the Tron Theme and Ending. Be sure to download this fantastic tribute to Tron on 8 Bit Weapon’s music page to get it. And you better get it! It’s free and fantastically awesome!

  • 8-bit Jesus: My Only True Savior

Posted on December 20th, 2008 Connor "The Lazy Geek" No comments

So, about, not even a day ago, I posted something about Foundation 9 and 8-bit Christmas music. Well, as awesome as that one-song preview was, I was not satiated. So I went digging around for some more 8-bit holiday tunes, and I have found my savior, in the form of 8-bit holiday tunes from Doctor Octoroc. Today he released his Christmas album, 8-bit Jesus, for FREE, but not on the happiest of notes as he has a 6-month old pup in need surgery for some bladder stones. Painful stuff, man.

So get in the giving spirit of the holiday and help a fellow game-enthusiast out! I know I have $15 around here…somewhere…

  • 8-bit Music + Christmas Tunes == Win

Posted on December 20th, 2008 Connor "The Lazy Geek" No comments

So, long time no see, right?  Well, whatever.  In the meantime, if you wanna follow me over to this great gaming blog, Kotaku, I’ll tell you what’s up. So I was scanning through the articles, as usual, and I came upon a little festive post that included 8-bit music.

Now, for those who don’t know me (all of you), I’m a big (huge), big (enormous) fan of 8-bit tunes. I love it with the fiery passion of 1000 burning suns. So naturally, after drooling for a second, I read up on the article.

Apparently, Foundation 9 doesn’t send out holiday cards to editors and whatnot. No, because they send out Christmas music. 8-bit Christmas Music.

That’s right, 8-bit remixes of classical holiday tunes. F$%@ yeah! anyway, you can check out 8 Bit Weapon’s remix of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (in MP3 format) here and for those curious, here’s a track listing.

    Track Listing
8 Bit Weapon – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
    ComputeHer – Deck the Halls
    Leeni – Silent Night
    8 Bit Weapon – Hanukkah
    Bud Melvin – Toyland
Doctor Octoroc – We Three Kings
DJ Mike Haggar – The 8 Bits of Christmas
CCIVORY – Joy to the World
    Melbot – O Christmas Tree
Unicorn Dream Attack – O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
    Dauragon – Auld Lang Syne

    Joy to the world indeed.
