Hi there, tis I again, your Lazy Geek, here today to spread the message of an event of awesome proportion. Actually two events, rolled into one, 24-hour gaming session. It’s called being efficient. How unlike a lazy geek such as myself? BUT, it’s for a good cause. Let me explain.
A long time ago in the year 2007, while playing Guild Wars and being lazy, I, along with two of my friends from the guild I’m not the leader of, had this idea, this grand idea, to bring the gaming community together, to show all who would notice that gamers are not as bad as the media zealots would make us out to be. We decided to host an event in the game of Guild Wars to bring the GW community together to support breast cancer research and awareness, and we would do so by getting as many participants to dye their armor a fantastical pink color. We called it Pink Day in LA.
It was a success, not a major impact, but we had a good number of supporters, enough so that in 2008 we did it again, this time with the help of the online radio station, Blade Radio, and it was a bigger hit from last year, gathering more support with everyone in pink armor who danced and partied the day away. Sadly, when 2009 rolled around, a lot of “stuff” happened and there was no plan for Pink Day.
But, fast forward to NOW, and as the pheonix rises from the ash, so too has Pink Day with the help of my good friend and boss (Maybe boss, I don’t get paid enough, but she did get me into that ArenaNet after-party at PAX…) Rhonda AKA M A L I B U Barbie and her online radio station, Gaming World Entertainment Network (GW-EN). And by help, I mean she practically did it all. Well most of it. A lot of it. I and others helped.
Anyway, Pink Day in LA, taking place this year on October 16th (see in 12 days!) already has a huge following and support and it’s just going to get bigger! And it already is bigger, because on the same day, Sarcastic Gamer is hosting Extra Life for its third year! If you don’t already know, Extra Life is a 24-hour video game marathon to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. You can read more about Extra Life here. So Rhonda, with her infinite wisdom, thought about how cool it would be to do the Extra Life marathon alongside Pink Day! BAM! Double dose of charity goodness! So, she started a team which I and my brother are now on and are always looking for more donations. *cough* *cough* *wink* *wink*
Basically, if you have some extra money sitting around, and if you happen to pay a monthly subscription, why not give a little towards a good cause? And to entice you, I’ll be (attempting) to livestream the whole session, that way everyone can feel awkward at the same time! So check out the links, donate if you can, and if you play Guild Wars, come hang out with us on the 16th!
